Artist Lead Workshops

Weaving - Taster Workshop

The third four week taster workshop starts on Friday 12th January, 11am - 1pm, delivered by Sue Rowland and you can learn to weave - with the rich wool heritage of Boston during the medieval era when the Guildhall was built this will be a perfect final scheduled workshop for anyone to get involved with.

Sue Rowland, a local textile artist will work with you to create beautiful, woven landscapes based on the countryside around Boston, possibly with a coastal theme with reference to Boston's maritime history as a major port and its links to wool and sheep.

During the workshops you will use different techniques and yarns (including local Lincolnshire long wool), looking at colour and texture to achieve a tactile piece of work on a card loom. Bring along your own picture of a f...avourite local coastal scene to work from, or use the provided photos as a starting point. You can include found coastal objects like shells and small pieces of driftwood if you wish.

Weaving is suitable for everyone so come along and get creative!

Four x 2 hour long taster session workshops, materials provided.
No Experience needed!

Pay weekly £5 per session or all four for £15.

Workshop information

Banner Workshops - With Ruth Pigott
You will design and sew your fabric banner using machine stitching, using a reverse applique technique.

We will only be using straight stitch, so there is no need to be highly experienced with a sewing machine. Sewing machines will be provided.
...
You will need to attend a set of 3 workshops to complete your banner.
Session 1 - Design you banner
Session 2 & 3 - Make your fabric banner using the sewing machine.

The banner workshops are repeated over the course of the next few months, you will be allocated one of the groups. Each group will have 5 participants. This will ensure your group has as much support from Ruth as needed.

Please specify if the dates of a particular group suits you best.

Finial Workshops - 3D Printing - With Kathleen Smith
The finial workshops will be an introduction to 3D printing and thinking of ideas for creating the final finials.

We will discuss what 3D printing is, how it works, the materials that can be used and how you would do 3D printing. There will be a 3D printer at the workshops that will produce small items so you can see how it works.

In the workshop you will produce a 3D sculpture from foam using carving techniques, the finished object will be scanned and converted into a file which will be used as inspiration for the final finials.

This workshop is open to 8 participants. You can attend one of the two dates.
Papercutting workshops to create designs for laser cutting - Kathleen Smith
We will look at the test panel that has been laser cut for the flagpole and also look at examples of laser cut designs. We will look at how you would create and prepare a file for laser cutting.

In the workshop you will learn how to paper cut. You will create a design that can then be used as inspiration towards the side panels on the flagpoles.

This workshop is open to 12 participants
